Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--More than $1.2 billion worth of wind projects are set to kick off construction in the Rocky Mountains region in the first quarter of 2010. Five wind projects are scheduled to begin construction in Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming in the first three months of next year, three of which have estimated total investment values of $300 million or more.

Colorado is taking the lion's share of these projects in terms of project value. Two grassroot windfarms with an estimated total investment value of $720 million are scheduled to kick off early next year. The largest of these is the 198-megawatt (MW) Huerfano County Windfarm, owned by Blue Diamond Ventures (Houston, Texas). Freedom Works LLC (Harpers Ferry, West Virginia) is acting as developer on the project, which will use 120 Vestas (CPH:VWS) (Copenhagen, Denmark) 1.65-MW turbine generators.

The Denver office of Horizon Wind Energy LLC (Houston, Texas) plans to begin construction of a 150-MW grassroot windfarm near Vona, Colorado. Prairie Wind Energy (Lamar, Colorado) is acting as developer on the project.

Rounding out the top three wind projects set to kick off in the region in the first three months of next year is another grassroot windfarm in Shelley, Idaho, owned and developed by Western Energy LLC (Idaho Falls, Idaho). As with several projects originally planned to begin in 2009, financing and other constraints caused delays for this project, which was originally planned to begin construction in May 2009 and be complete by the end of the year. Currently, construction kickoff of the project is tentatively set for March 2010.

Details of these and more than 15 other U.S. wind projects worth an additional $2.5 billion can be found in Industrial Info's North American Industrial Database.
