MTU Detroit Diesel to Retrofit Facility to Build Engines

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--MTU Detroit Diesel Incorporated, a subsidiary of German Company Tognum Group, which is a global leader in diesel propulsion and power systems, will retrofit a 270,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Aiken County, South Carolina, to manufacture MTU's Series 2000 and Series 4000 engines by the end of the year.

Construction on the building is scheduled to begin in May. MTU expects to begin manufacturing operations in mid-October and will employ about 250 workers within the first four years of operation. When the plant is completed, MTU will supply engines for applications in the marine, rail, power generation, oil and gas, agriculture, mining, construction and industrial and defense markets.

ACS Incorporated (Madison, Wisconsin) was selected by MTU to perform general construction for the manufacturing plant.
