New Technology for Producing Titanium Powders Demonstrated in Pilot Plant

International Titanium Powder LLC (ITP) (Lockport, Illinois) currently operates a small pilot scale demonstration plant located in Lockport capable of producing several hundred pounds per year of titanium powder (Plant 1063097). ITP is using a new technology they developed internally that reduces titanium tetrachloride and sodium to titanium powders for use in traditional titanium metal applications at a much cheaper cost than conventional process technologies.

ITP is anticipating some substantial grant money from the U.S. Army in the coming months that will help begin the process of planning for the construction and startup of their planned commercial scale production facility within the next two years. Although a plant site has not yet been selected, ITP anticipates gaining approvals this year with construction potentially beginning in the spring or summer of 2005. When completed the new plant would be capable of producing as much as two million pounds per year of titanium powders and employ nearly 100 people.
