New York Nuclear Power Station Gets New Head

During the outage, work will be performed to replace the reactor vessel head (RVH) and add new control rod drive mechanisms

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Rochester Gas & Electric Corporation (RG&E) (Rochester, New York), a regulated division of RGS Energy, a subsidiary of Energy East Corporation (NYSE:EAS) (Ithaca, New York) is planning to perform a month long outage (PEC 14002326) on their 517 megawatt (MW) R E Ginna Unit #1 nuclear power station, located in Ontario, New York. During the outage, work will be performed to replace the reactor vessel head (RVH) and add new control rod drive mechanisms (CRDM's).

The RVH and CRDM's to be installed on the 517 MW nuclear Westinghouse Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) will be supplied and installed by Framatone-ANP an AREVA & Siemens company. Jeumont, a subsidiary of Framatome-ANP, fabricated 29 new CRDM's for the project. The outage is to take place in September and October of 2003. The outage will also address refueling the reactor, plus normal maintenance and inspection of the balance of plant, including the Siemens Westinghouse steam turbine/generator.

Energy East Corporation is a conservative super regional "pipes & wires" company with operations in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire. Energy East serves approximately three million customers, including 1.8 million electric customers (650,000 for Rochester Gas & Electric), plus one million natural gas customers and 200,000 other retail energy customers.

Framatome ANP (Advanced Nuclear Power) provides nuclear products and services to their customers, helping them to power the world with safe, clean, cost-effective nuclear energy. That's why in 2001, they successfully integrated the nuclear businesses of Framatome and Siemens to form Framatome ANP and further improved service with the comprehensive engineering resources of the former Duke Engineering & Services in 2002. They have more than 3,000 employees in the U.S. and are headquartered in Lynchburg, Virginia, with U.S. locations from coast to coast.
