Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Astoria Generating Station (Astoria, New York) is prepping its 387-megawatt Unit 4 for a return to service. The unit, which went offline last September for a major turbine overhaul, was initially scheduled to return back in December and is now in its final stages of repair --maybe.
The Astoria station is owned and operated by Astoria Generating Company LP (Astoria). The facility became operational in 1953 and now has a maximum generating capacity of nearly 1,350 megawatts. The plant's three other generators (Units 2, 3 and 5) have remained operational for almost the whole duration of Unit 4's outage, with only minor planned maintenance bringing any of the units off the power grid.
