Nexen Chemical Selects Manitoba Site for Planned Increase in Sodium Chlorate Capacity
Civil construction in preparation for cartage of equipment from the Louisiana site began this month

Nexen Chemicals Incorporated (Calgary, Alberta), a subsidiary of Nexen Incorporated (NYSE: NXY), has begun dismantling assets at their Taft, Louisiana plant site for relocation to their plant site in Brandon, Manitoba (PEC 54000195). The relocation of equipment from Taft combined with new equipment installations will achieve a capacity increase at the Brandon plant of approximately 33% or 85,000 metric tons per year when completed next summer.
Aker Kvaerner Chemetics (Vancouver, British Columbia) has been hired to provide engineering and construction management services for the estimated $35 million project. Civil construction in preparation for cartage of equipment from the Louisiana site began this month. Mechanical construction and installation will begin this fall once final permit approvals for the expansion are approved.
