Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Nicholas Plastics Incorporated (Allendale, Michigan) is expanding its Allendale plant, thanks to a new five-year contract the company has won from General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM) (Detroit, Michigan) for molded and colored exterior ornamental components for several new GM vehicles beginning in January 2006.

The company will add approximately 112,000 square feet to its existing 155,000 square foot facility. Total investment value for the project is $18 million, $13.6 million, of which, will go for the purchase of new state-of-the-art equipment and technology to manufacture the molded and colored parts. The expansion is expected to add about 100 new jobs to the more than 250 workers it presently employs, a welcome piece of news for western Michigan, which has been hard hit by manufacturing sector lay-offs in the past few years. Nicholas Plastics received a Michigan Single Business Tax credit of $3.7 million from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to help offset construction and related expenses.

Nicholas Plastics did the design work for the new addition. The architectural contract was awarded to AE2 Incorporated of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the contract for general contracting was awarded to Taylor Building Systems of Wyoming, Michigan.

Nicholas Plastics Incorporated, a Nicholas Plastics Group company, is a Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III supplier to the automotive industry and has had a profitable working relationship with General Motors for a dozen years. Besides automotive, Nicholas Plastics also serves the appliance and office furniture industries.
