Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dangote Industries Limited (Lagos, Nigeria) is once again delaying the commercial startup of its Lekki Refinery in Nigeria due to issues at the power plant. Once commissioned, the refinery's single, 650,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) will be the biggest in the world, by capacity.
"The delay adds uncertainty to forward crude and refined product supply and demand, particularly with West African crude exports," says Hillary Stevenson, a senior director at the energy division of Industrial Info. The refinery was initially expected to be completed in 2017, she added.
Commercial startup was most recently expected in May after being delayed due to operational issues at the power plant, which kept the refinery's crude unit from running.
