Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Nippon Steel Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) has begun rebuilding the No. 3 blast furnace of its Nagoya Integrated Steel Mill in Japan. The project has a total investment value (TIV) of $49 billion yen (US$396 million). Construction began January 30 and is planned to take about 130 days; the furnace is planned to reignite in early June.
The renovation is expected to increase the furnace's volume by about 3% to 4,425 cubic meters. This is the fourth renovation of the No. 3 blast furnace, the last of which was performed in 2000.
Industrial Info also is tracking the installation of a new hot-rolled mill at the Nagoya site. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Metals & Minerals Project Database can click here for the furnace rebuild and hot-rolled mill project reports.
