Biden Climate Advisor Says Existing Nuclear Necessary for Emissions Reduction - White House national climate advisor Gina McCarthy said on Tuesday that existing nuclear power plants are going to be needed in the Biden administration's effort to hit goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. "In many areas, continuation of the existing nuclear, as long as it's environmentally sound and it's permitted, is going to be absolutely essential" because it will provide time to develop renewable energy into a bigger part of the energy mix, McCarthy said at a Columbia University Center on Global Energy Policy virtual event. China's Diesel Exports Rise on Resurgent Demand, Gasoline Exports Down - China's diesel exports in April rose 5.7% from the same period last year because of resurgent overseas demand and refiners' efforts to reduce large domestic stocks. Diesel shipments reached 2.72 million tonnes last month, down from 2.81 million tonnes in March, data from the General Administration of Customs showed on Tuesday. Gasoline exports in April plunged 22.8% from a year earlier to 1.47 million tonnes.
