The facility, owned by Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina), was constructed on 120 acres and is generating enough electricity to power thousands of homes for North Carolina residents. At its peak, the project created 250 construction jobs and brings 15 permanent full time jobs to the local community.
Construction took just over a year and was completed by engineering, procurement and construction firm Phoenix Solar Incorporated (San Ramon, California), a division of German solar photovoltaic company Phoenix Solar AG. The project had a total investment value of $100 million. Duke Energy will be responsible for operation and maintenance for the solar-farm.
