NorthWestern Energy Begins $206 Million Power Project in Montana

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--NorthWestern Energy (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) has started construction of the $206 million, 200-megawatt (MW) Mill Creek Power Station in Anaconda, Montana, adjacent to the existing Mill Creek Substation.

Construction of the project began this fall and is scheduled to be completed and ready for full commercial operation by summer 2010. The project will consist of constructing four natural-gas-fired 50-MW Pratt and Whitney FT8 SWIFTPAC combustion turbine-generators that will operate in a simple-cycle peaking configuration, providing power when energy demands are at their highest, during the summer and winter months. Mill Creek will be equipped to use fuel oil as a back-up fuel source. State-of-the-art emissions-reduction equipment such as selective catalytic reduction technology will also be utilized in order to help control both NOx and carbon-monoxide emissions.

NorthWestern Energy will supply the natural gas for the project through an existing pipeline. The water requirements for the project will be supplied through The City of Anaconda wastewater treatment plant.

NewMech Constructors Southwest (Las Vegas, Nevada), a subsidiary of the CorVal Group Incorporated (St. Paul, Minnesota) will provided the turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services for the project.
