Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Statkraft's (Oslo, Norway) 350-megawatt Svartisen Hydropower Station in Meloy, Norland, is planning to install a new 250-megawatt Francis turbine manufactured by Rainpower (Kjeller, Norway). Statkraft signed a contract with Rainpower in 2007, and the turbine is expected to be assembled at the plant by mid-2010. Commissioning is scheduled for the beginning of 2011.
The generator for the new turbine will be supplied by VG Power (Vasteras, Sweden). The addition of the new unit will contribute with an extra power production equal to 35 gigawatt-hours.
Statkraft also plans to upgrade a 350-MW Kvaerner Francis turbine at the same plant. This unit was became operational in 1993 and will be upgraded with the installation of a new runner. Work is expected to begin by mid-2011 after the new turbine has been assembled, plant officials said.
Rainpower is a supplier of technology, products and services to the hydropower industry. Its deliveries include high-pressure turbines, small hydropower plants, technology, maintenance, refurbishment and upgrades, among other services.
