Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction is bustling along on the site of Wisconsin Specialty Protein LLC's (Madison, Wisconsin) new organic whey processing plant in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. The new $13.1 million facility will be the first in the country to process whey specifically from organic, goat and sheep cheese, as opposed to commodity cheese, and will probably be the first in the world segregating these unique proteins. Other plants processing whey traditionally mix all forms of the substance together, including whey made from commodity cheese, usually coming from cows treated with bovine growth hormone.
Located on an 8.5-acre site, the company expects to complete the erection phase of a 20,000-square-foot building this month and proceed with installing processing equipment shortly thereafter. Plans call for the facility to be operational next March.
Membrane System Specialists Incorporated (Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin) and Consolidated Construction (Appleton, Wisconsin) were contracted to perform engineering and construction services, respectively.
