PacifiCorp Completes Combined-Cycle Conversion Project at Currant Creek

PacifiCorp (Portland, Oregon), a subsidiary of ScottishPower (NYSE:SPI), has commenced full commercial operation for the combined-cycle conversion, which was the second phase of the $348 million Currant Creek Project, located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Construction for the project began in March 2005, and was completed in January 2006. PacifiCorp began full commercial operation of the project in late March.

The project consisted of adding two Vogt Power International, Incorporated horizontal natural circulation, three-pressure level, supplementary-fired heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and a 245-megawatt Toshiba International Corporation steam turbine generator to the existing plant in order to convert the plant from its original simple cycle configuration to a combined cycle plant. With the conversion, Currant Creek will now have the capability to generate a total of 525 megawatts. The project also features state-of-the-art air emissions-reduction technology, including selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and an oxidative catalyst (CO) for the reduction of NOx emissions.

Stone & Webster, a subsidiary of The Shaw Group, Incorporated (NYSE:SGR ), is providing the engineering, procurement, and construction (E+P+C) services for the project.
