Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--PCS Phosphate Company Incorporated (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) a subsidiary of Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (NYSE:POT) (Saskatoon) is in the process of building a seventh sulfuric acid unit at their Aurora, North Carolina, plant site. This $100 million unit will produce an estimated 5,400 tons per day of sulfuric acid when completed, which is expected to happen late next year. This project is one of several major expansions planned in the United States by PCS over the next couple of years. In total, more than $370 million in future capital and maintenance projects have been identified by Industrial Info as part of its North American Project Database.
PCS's plant site in Augusta, Georgia, will be home to the second largest group of projects planned by PCS in the United States over the next few years. Planning has begun for a major reformer reharp that could take place next year, as well as the potential expansion and debottlenecking of the ammonia unit in 2010.
Operating more than 15 plants across the United States and Canada that produce products for the chemical, agricultural, food and feed industries, PCS appears to be on an aggressive path of growth to meet demand. Despite the current economic worries over the domestic economy, this growth seems consistent with the increased demands for fertilizers and agricultural chemicals to support increased crop harvests and global demand.
