Perfect Fit Textile Factory Closure to Eliminate 95 Jobs in Loogootee, Indiana

Researched by Industrial Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Perfect Fit Industries LLC (Charlotte, North Carolina), one of the largest home-textile suppliers, plans to close its plant in Loogootee, Indiana. The plant is a 136,000-square foot facility that has operated for 78 years.

The economic impact likely will be devastating for the city of only 2,700. Perfect Fit Industries was a large contributor and highly respected landmark in the town. Entire families worked in the factory. Some are couples, which will lose their entire household income. Negotiations for more time were hoped for before the decision became final. Due to Perfect fit's financial picture and the economic downturn, the company was forced to consolidate, eliminating almost 100 jobs.

Plant Manager Marlin Courtright says the first phase of downsizing will begin in October 2010, although some jobs will remain until the plant is shut down in December 2010. Production and equipment will move to one of the company's other three plants in California, North Carolina and New Hampshire. The facility will be leased or sold once the equipment is removed. Human Resource Director Dexter Royal said that Perfect Fit would assist the laid-off workers with training for job placement, but would not offer transfers to other company facilities or significant severance benefits.
