Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Brazil's national petroleum company Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has delayed construction of a new fertilizers complex in Linhares, Espirito Santo state in Brazil, which is now scheduled for completion in the last quarter of 2017.

The Linhares fertilizers plant, which is part of a plan to expand Petrobras' fertilizer production capacity is known as UFN 4 (Nitrogenous Fertilizers Unit 4) and will include a 665,000-metric-ton-per-year urea unit; a 600,000-metric-ton-per-year ammonia unit; and a 680,000-metric-ton-per-year methanol unit; a 200,000-metric-ton-per-year acetic acid unit; a 25,000-metric-ton-per-year formic acid unit; and a 30,000-metric-ton-per-year melamine unit.

There are two other projects which are part of Petrobras' national plan: the UFN 3 project in Tres Lagoas, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, and the UFN 5 project in Uberaba, Triunfo in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. These two projects are scheduled to be completed in 2014 and 2015, respectively. The UFN 4 project has seen its completion date moved forward so as not to overlap with the other two undertakings.

While Petrobras has already contracted the consortium formed by Sinopec Brasil (Rio de Janeiro) and Galvao Engenharia (Sao Paulo) as the EPC company to execute the UFN 3 site, it is in the process of selecting the EPC firm for UFN 5. The UFN 4 plant is scheduled to have an EPC contract awarded in 2013, and it will be the last of the three sites to be completed.
