Phase I of CNNC's Xudabao Nuclear Power Project Receives Preliminary Approval

Phase I of China National Nuclear Corporation's Xudabao Nuclear Power Project received preliminary approval from the National Development and Reform Commission.

Released Thursday, January 20, 2011

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Phase I of China National Nuclear Corporation's (CNNC) (Beijing) Xudabao Nuclear Power Project received preliminary approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), specifically to perform pre-stage preparation for the project, CNNC announced recently.

The Xudabao Nuclear Power Project, which is on the south coast of Xudabao Village in Haibin Town of Xicheng City, in the Liaoning province, is a commercial nuclear power project established in 2009 that is to be built and operated by Liaoning Nuclear Power Company Limited (Huludao, Liaoning), a joint venture of CNNC (50%), Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (SHA:601991) (Beijing) (20%), State Development and Investment Corporation (Beijing) (10%), Zhejiang Energy Group (Hangzhou, Zhejiang) (10%), and Jiangsu Guoxin Assets Management Group (Nanjing, Jiangsu) (10%).

As planned, Xudabao Nuclear Power Project will build six units in phases; of which, two 1,000-megawatt (MW) units based on improved M310 pressurized water reactors will be built in Phase I, with a total investment of about $4 billion. The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) general contracting of the project had been awarded to China Nuclear Power Engineering Company Limited (Beijing), a professional subsidiary of CNNC, at the beginning of 2010. The survey and engineering contract for the auxiliary and construction power supply required for the pre-stage preparation of the project had been awarded to Northeast Electric Power Design Institute (NEPDI) (Changchun, Jilin) in late October 2010.

Receiving the preliminary approval from the NDRC indicates that the pre-stage preparation of the project has entered into a critical stage. According to the schedule, the first bucket of concrete for the Unit 1 will be made in September 2011. Units 1 and 2 will begin operation in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
