Foreign and local mining companies are awaiting the regulatory filing results for Philex Mining Corporation's $1.4 billion Silangan Coper-Gold project, which is one of the three major mining projects in the Philippines. The four-phase operation includes underground mining on the Philippine's mineral-rich southern island of Mindanao.
The Silangan mine is seen by local industry experts as a catalyst to revive the country's mining industry. It is expected to return to active status after all required permits are granted.
