Poland's Skawina Power Station Plans Steam Turbine Modernization Projects

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Czech power utility CEZ's (Prague) Elektrownia Skawina power plant in Krakow, Poland, is currently modernizing and performing major maintenance work on steam turbine 5 and plans to perform the same work on turbines 4 and 6 in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

The 440-megawatt (MW) plant is located in southwest Krakow near the Slovakian border. It has seven steam turbines, although three of them currently are not generating electricity. The 110-MW turbines were manufactured by Russia's Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod and are connected to the boilers through a steam collector. The eight installed boilers were manufactured by Poland's Rafako, with four of them being OP-230 and the four of them being Rafako OP-21.

Modernization and maintenance began this month on turbine 5 on the generator's stator and rotor, as well as for the repair of pumps and steam valves.

Plans are to continue with the modernization of steam turbine 4 in February 2010 and steam turbine 6 in February 2011. Work is expected to last between five and six months with the commissioning of the new equipment expected for July of each year, plant officials said.
