Port of Oakland Releases Proposal to Build $20 Million Import Cargo Distribution Center in California

Port of Oakland (Oakland, California) has announced Requests for Proposals (RFP's) to develop and operate a $20 Million Import Cargo Distribution Center

Released Wednesday, December 03, 2003

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Port of Oakland (Oakland, California) has announced Requests for Proposals (RFP's) to develop and operate a $20 Million Import Cargo Distribution Center to be located in Oakland, California (PEC 06004217).

Located on a 37-acre parcel in the heart of the Port Area, the 1,600,000 square foot facility will be within one mile of all of the Port's marine container facilities and the intermodal rail yards of both western railroads. The new facility will allow connection between the ocean carriers and the national lead transportation infrastructure plus increasing cargo handling operations. The new facility will also serve over the road distribution of import cargoes as well as national distribution by way of Oakland's two intermodal railyards.

Requests for Proposals for a Developer/Tenant are currently being accepted with a decision possibly being made in March 2004. If approved, and once a developer has been selected, construction could start as early as the Fall of 2004, with completion slated for 2006.

Port of Oakland, headquartered at 530 Water Street in Oakland, California, occupies 19 miles of waterfront on the Eastern Shore of San Francisco Bay. It includes 665 acres currently devoted to maritime activities and 3,000 acres devoted to aviation activities. The Port of Oakland owns and operates Oakland International Airport and markets the facilities to tenants including airlines and companies. The Port also owns and manages more than 400 acres of developable land, including Jack London Square, Embarcadero Cove and Oakland Airport Business Park.
