Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Entergys Gerald Andrus power station was forced offline yesterday due to a malfunction in one of the mechanical turbine components. The station was forced to remove the 782-megawatt (MW) Unit 01 when engineers discovered issues occurring in the EHC (electro-hydraulic control) pump. The plant is calling in the expertise of General Electric (manufacturer of the unit) to resolve the issue. Engineers are hoping to have the pump repaired and the unit returned to the grid by this weekend.
The power station is owned by Entergy Corporation headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is a Fortune 500 company with revenues of more than $10 billion in 2006. It owns and operates power stations with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity. Entergy delivers electricity to approximately 2.6 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. It is the second largest nuclear generator in the United States.
