Riverside Public Utilities Prepares to Move Forward with California Power Plant

Riverside Public Utilities (Riverside, California) is preparing to move forward with construction of the 96-megawatt (MW) Riverside Energy Resource Center, located near Van Buren Boulevard and Jurup Avenue in Riverside, California. The project recently received California Energy Commission (CEC) approval, and construction is expected to begin construction early in 2005.

The new power plant will house two natural gas-fired simple-cycle General Electric LM6000 SPRINT Next Generation combustion turbine generator sets, to provide peaking power for the local grid. Bibb and Associates (Pasadena, California) and TIC (Steamboat Springs, Colorado) have teamed to provide design, engineering, and construction management for the project. Installation of a fuel delivery system, inlet air chillers, an electrical transmission system, and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) units will also be required. Detailed engineering is underway, and construction is expected to begin during the first quarter of 2005. Project completion and full commercial operation for the plant is scheduled to occur by the end of 2005.
