Roundy's Building Again - New Food Commissary Gets Underway in Wisconsin

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Privately-held grocery wholesaler, Roundy's Incorporated (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is continuing to grow and has started building again. This time, the company is concentrating on its store brand manufacturing through the construction of a new food commissary facility that will be located in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Earlier this year, Industrialinfo.com reported that the company had begun construction on a new $65 million, 950,000 square foot food distribution center, currently under construction in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Today, the company has started site preparation for a new food commissary and commercial kitchen to manufacture food and beverage for all of the company's branded products. This project is estimated to cost in excess of $20 million and will eliminate outsourcing of production-related activity.

The company selected American Igloo Builders Incorporated (Libertyville, Illinois) as the general contractor for the project. Roundy's expects American Igloo to begin laying the foundation for the building within the next 30 days, weather permitting.

Plans are to construct a 100,000 square foot manufacturing building and install processing and packaging equipment to initially produce food items, such as sausages and orange juice and bottled water beverage items.

Each project is projected to create about 100 jobs. Construction on both projects is scheduled to be completed around June or July of 2005.

Roundy's, Incorporated, founded in 1872, is a leading food retailer and wholesaler in the Midwest. As of October 2, 2004, Roundy's operates 126 retail grocery stores under the Pick 'n Save, Copps, and Rainbow Foods banners. From five distribution centers, Roundy's supplies over 600 retail grocery store locations. The Company is owned by investment funds controlled by Chicago-based Willis Stein & Partners III, L.P.
