The Sabine River Works Cogen plant, owned by ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) brought a combustion turbine unit down earlier this month for extensive repairs to the rotor. The 171-megawatt (MW) combustion turbine unit’s rotor suffered a compressor failure and will need to be rebuilt by General Electric (NYSE:GE). The rotor is being sent back to GE’s Houston location and repairs are expected to last two months.

The Sabine River Works Cogen plant is located in Orange, Texas, approximately 120 miles east of Houston. The plant has a total of 485 megawatts of cogeneration capacity that supplies power to the DuPont Sabine River Works facility. This is comprised of two 170 MW combustion turbines and a 145 MW steam turbine unit. The plant will supply more power than required for the facility and the excess power will be sold to the Texas electricity market.
