Shell Offshore Incorporated leads all other oil majors in its production in the Gulf of Mexico by a significant margin. From more than 1,900 wells in the Gulf, Shell has produced a whopping 264.5 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) so far in 2019. BP trails with less than half of Shell's production, at 92.2 million BOE year-to-date.
Shell's water cut level (or the percentage volume of produced water from a well) has remained well below the Gulf's average. Shell's current water cut rate among all wells is 17%, while the average for the entire Gulf is 52%. This rate likely would shield Shell from most future price drops. Shell also owns or has interest in 11 different offshore production platforms.
