Siemens AG Performs Major Maintenance at Turkish Sugozu Power Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--From March 5, 2009, Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) will perform major maintenance works on both steam turbine units at Turkey's Isken Sugozu Power Plant. The 1,320-megawatt (MW) Iske Sugozu Power Plant is owned by Evonik Steag GmbH (Essen, Germany) and is operated by Iskenerun Enerji (Ankary, Turkey).

Unit 1 will be taken offline on March 5, while Unit 2 will be taken offline April 10. According to plant officials, there will be an overlap of seven days with both units offline in order to achieve maintenance in shared areas of the power house.

In January, when the manufacturer's guarantee for the equipment expired, Evonik signed a long-term service agreement with Siemens that will terminate in 2021. For twelve years, Siemens will perform annual major maintenance on each of the 660-MW generating units.

The Isken Sugozu Power Plant was inaugurated in 2003 and is located on the Mediterranean coast on the Gulf of Iskenderun at the foot of the Nur Mountains. It is equipped with two 660-MW Siemens steam turbines fuelled by coal and two pressurized Babcock Benson boilers.
