South Carolina Electric & Gas Company a subsidiary of SCANA Corporation (SCG) (Columbia, South Carolina) commenced construction in April of this year on an 875 megawatt (MW) natural gas and oil-fired power plant on Purysburgh Road in Hardeeville, South Carolina.
The $450 million power project is being engineered and constructed by Duke/Fluor Daniel (Charlotte, North Carolina). The plant will consist of three General Electric 7FA combustion turbines plus one Alstom steam turbine to produce up to 875 MW of power generation. The Jasper County power plant is being upgraded from its original 600 MW status to 875 MW due to high demand for power in that area. The plant is scheduled to begin commercial operation in early May 2004.
