Southern California Public Power Authority Begins Construction of $260 Million Power Project in Anaheim

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) (Pasadena, California) has begun construction on the estimated $260 million, 200-megawatt (MW) Canyon Power Project in Anaheim, California.

Construction began earlier this year, and full commercial operation is scheduled to commence by the spring of 2011. The project will consist of building four natural gas-fired GE Energy LM6000PC SPRINT combustion turbine generators, each rated at 50 MW. The project will operate in a simple-cycle peaking configuration that will power nearly 150,000 homes during times when energy demand is at its highest, which is normally in the summer and winter months. The turbine will be equipped with state-of-the-art emissions technology, such as an inlet chiller system and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for the reduction of NOx emissions.

Barton Marlow Company (Southfield, Michigan) will provide the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project.
