Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Spanish sustainable development company Acciona SA (MCE:ANA) (Madrid, Spain) and solar energy company Dhamma Energy (Madrid) have formed an agreement for the development and operation of 250 megawatts (MW) of photovoltaic (PV) solar-power projects in France over the next three years, requiring an estimated investment of 1 billion euros ($1.23 billion).

The first project in the series is a 12-MW PV plant in Ardèche located in the Rhône Alps region. Key features of the plant include an automatic solar tracker to track the movement of the sun, and state-of-the-art control and monitoring systems in the PV sector.

The PV project will be constructed at the aerodrome of southern Ardèche on a 32-hectare area. Under the terms of the deal, Acciona will provide the necessary technology, engineering and design, in addition to carrying out construction, operations and maintenance activities of all Dhamma Energy ventures in France.

The power output from the plant will be about 18,000 megawatt-hours per year, equivalent to the power consumption of 7,100 homes in the region. Dhamma Energy has rights to the site for 22 years, during which time the company will own the plant, while Acciona will build, operate and maintain the facility.

The companies indicate that they will be working on six other PV projects shortly, out of which five ventures will be of similar capacity, while the sixth one is likely to be larger. Negotiations are at an advanced stage.

Acciona is a key player in the sustainable development sector. The company has six business units spanning infrastructure, real estate, energy, water management (supply and wastewater treatment), and urban and environmental services. In the PV energy sector, the company already has an installed capacity of 115 MW, out of which 69 MW is located in Spain in the form of solar gardens. The ownership of these facilities is shared by multiple people.

Dhamma Energy is a PV specialist firm that is active in Spain and France. The company invests and develops PV projects in the two countries, including Corsica. The company provides the entire range of project management services, from technical, financial and administrative aspects through operation and maintenance of the facilities.
