The Saint Matthews plant will be constructed on a 50-acre parcel in a 325-acre industrial park off of Interstate 26 in Calhoun County.
Released Tuesday, July 03, 2007
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Worldwide purveyor of fine coffee products, Starbucks Coffee Company (NYSE:SBUX ) (Seattle, Washington) is on track to break ground next month on an $80 million coffee bean roasting plant and distribution center in Saint Matthews, South Carolina. Earlier this year, Starbucks announced that Saint Matthews would be the site of its fifth roasting plant and would roast, grind and package coffee. Construction will get underway once the company receives required permits over the next couple of weeks. The Saint Matthews plant is scheduled for operation by the end of 2008.
Coffee beans will arrive from Africa, Asia and Latin America. Beans will be placed in drums and heated, letting them expand and pop. After the grinding the packaging process is completed, products will be distributed to company owned coffeehouses in Southern states south of Virginia and east of Texas.
Starbucks awarded Stellar (Jacksonville, Florida) a design-build contract including design, construction, and procurement. Plans call for the construction of a 150,000 square foot structure that will be primarily comprised of insulated sheet metal. Design is ongoing and Stellar plans to subcontract the construction phase.
Industrial Info first reported on Starbucks plans for the Saint Matthews site in an April 2007 project report that listed three key contacts including Stellar. Like all of Industrial Infos PEC Reports, the report also included project scope and timeline of bid release dates, construction kick-off and completion, along with other key project information.
