SUEZ Energy Set To Begin Commercial Start-Up for $400 Million Power Project in Mississippi

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). SUEZ Energy International (Houston, Texas) has completed construction and start up testing for the $400 million Choctaw Gas Generation Project located in Ackerman, Choctaw County, Mississippi.

Construction for the project started in August 2002 and was recently completed this spring. SUEZ Energy anticipates full commercial start up for the new power plant this month. Choctaw consists of a 2-on-1 combined-cycle power block equipped with two 240-megawatt natural gas-fired Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation W501G combustion turbine generators, two Nooter/Eriksen heat recovery steam generators, and one 250-megawatt reheat condensing Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation steam turbine generator, all of which will have a generating nameplate capacity of about 730-megawatts, but will operate at about 630-megawatts.

WorleyParsons headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania performed the engineering for the project and The Industrial Company (TIC) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado acted as the general contractor.
