Mirant Corporation (NYSE: MIR) (Atlanta, Georgia) has completed commercial startup of a combined cycle conversion at its Sugar Creek Energy plant located in West Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana. The conversion involved the addition of two duct fired heat recovery steam generators and a steam turbine generator and is expected to bring the plant's total capacity up to 550 megawatts. The Sugar Creek Energy plant began commercial operation in July 2002 as a simple cycle generator providing 318 megawatts of reliable power to southern Indiana and the Midwestern United States and has been used for peaking demands.
