Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Turn on the energy news these days and you are bound to hear talk of environmental compliance. It permeates every facet of the Power Industry, as energy companies seek the best technology solutions for approximately $32 billion in compliance-driven projects to clean up our nations air.
One of the newer, promising technologies to emerge addressing this issue is the patent pending Final Flue Gas Cleaning (FFGC) system technology invented by Wow Energies (Sugar Land, Texas). Earlier this year, Wow Energies received a $1.6 million contract from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to build a pilot plant and test its new FFGC technology. The FFGC is designed to be an all-in-one solution for coal-fired power plants and other dirty smokestack industries to reduce heavy metals, SOx, NOx, particulate matter, and VOCs by a purported 95-99%. According to Daniel Stinger, CEO of Wow Energies, "The objective is to allow power plants to meet new environmental regulations with a single environmental control system, rather than having to install multiple systems like an SCR, Wet ESP, and/or flue gas desulfurization and so forth."
The pilot plant module is being fabricated in Illinois and will be shipped to the site in the next few weeks. The company hopes to begin testing no later than January 2006.
The prospects seem bright for the technology as Mr. Stinger goes on to state, "We have commitment letters with a couple of coal-fired power plants in Texas to do some pilot testing with the ultimate goal of showing them how to remove mercury, SOx, and NOx from flue gas."
A 26-year resident of Sugar Land and former executive with Fluor Corporation, Mr. Stinger created Wow Energies in 2003 to develop technologies to improve energy efficiency and reduce pollution at power plants and industrial facilities. Mr. Stinger affirms, "Our objectives are two fold, to reduce energy consumption and also simultaneously clean up emissions." Wow Energies accomplishes this through its Cascading Closed Loop Cycle (CCLC) technology, which converts waste heat to electrical power and the FFGC technology.
