Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 110-megawatt (MW) Quinto photovoltaic (PV) solar project, located in Merced County, California, began commercial operations last month.
The facility, owned by SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ:SPWR) (San Jose, California) was constructed over 1,000 acres and generates enough electricity to power more than 40,000 California homes. The project has a 20-year power purchase agreement with Southern California Edison (Rosemead, California), a subsidiary of Edison International (NYSE:EIX) (Rosemead), and will bring the local economy more tax revenues.
Construction lasted for more than a year and was completed by Mortenson Construction (Minneapolis, Minnesota). The project had a total investment value of $440 million. SunPower will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the solar farm.
