Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Swedish technology company Morphic Technologies AB (STO:MORP B), through its subsidiary Finshyttan Hydro Power AB (Filipstad, Sweden), had expected to complete the refurbishment of a turbine in January at the Letsi Hydropower Plant in northern Sweden.
The company received the order in October 2008 from GE Energy, a unit of General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut), to refurbish one of the plant's three 150-megawatt (MW) hydraulic turbines, but a delivery delay has pushed back the project's completion. A new completion date has been set for September. The project also consists of replacing the generator's stator for a new one manufactured by GE. The new generator's stator is already at the site but has not been installed.
The plant's three units are currently operational, and if everything goes as planned, Unit 2 will be taken offline in April to undergo the refurbishment, plant officials said.
Finshyttan refurbished Unit 1 in 2007. Sweden is currently in the process of refurbishing and modernizing hydroelectric power stations to increase production, as hydroelectric power accounts for more than 40% of the country's electricity production.
The Letsi plant was the first to be built on the Lule Alv River. The plant's three units have a total power output of 440 MW.
