Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Technip's (OTC:TKPPY) (Paris, France) acquisition of Stone & Webster's (S&W) (Stoughton, Massachusetts) process technologies and associated oil and gas engineering capabilities from The Shaw Group (NYSE:SHAW) (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) for $225 million in 2012 was a major factor in the French company being awarded a Mexican project contract.

Emiliano Pescador, Technip Mexico country manager, said that the company, in a consortium with Construcciones Industriales Tapia (CIT) (Hidalgo, Mexico), has won a contract to revamp one of the conversion units at Hector R Lara Sosa refinery in Cadereyta.

Technip's share of the contract amounts to about $40 million and S&W's extensive experience and state-of-the-art technology will be employed on the project. Pescador said that this was the first engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract his company had received from state-controlled PEMEX Refinacion.

Under the contract the consortium will be responsible for carrying out detailed engineering, procurement, construction, training, commissioning and start-up for the recondition Mexico City the combustion gases system of the No. 1 fluid catalytic combustion plant at the refinery.

Technip will execute the project work from its operating center in Mexico City with the help of CIT for the construction work. The project is scheduled to be completed before mid-2014.
