Boric acid crystals have been found and have caused some concern, because it was blamed for damage done at FirstEnergy Corporation's (NYSE:FE ) (Akron, Ohio) Davis-Besse Nuclear Station in Oak Harbor, Ohio. There have been numerous problems with leaking and cracked tubes in the steam generators at these and other plants in the U.S. About 27.5% (19 steam generator systems) of the 69 PWR licensed power reactors in the United States have been replaced.

Damage to the units here in Texas seem to revolve around thin steel alloyed tubes that have cracks and erosion in the alloy (Inconel) tubes. Comanche Peak like STEGS is utilizing the services of Bechtel Power Incorporated (Fredrick, Maryland), a division of Bechtel Corporation (San Francisco, California) to perform the work.
