There have been numerous problems with leaking and cracked tubes in the steam generators at these and other plants in the U.S.
Released Monday, December 20, 2004
Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). TXU Generation Company LP, a subsidiary of TXU Corporation (NYSE:TXU )(Dallas, Texas) will need to replace steam generators on unit 1 at its Comanche Peak Nuclear Station in Glen Rose, Texas. This will be a similar replacement to what was performed on two 1,312 megawatt (MW) units at the other Texas nuclear plant, the South Texas Project Electric Generating Station (STEGS) in Wadsworth, Texas.
Damage to the units here in Texas seem to revolve around thin steel alloyed tubes that have cracks and erosion in the alloy (Inconel) tubes. Comanche Peak like STEGS is utilizing the services of Bechtel Power Incorporated (Fredrick, Maryland), a division of Bechtel Corporation (San Francisco, California) to perform the work.
