The Top 10 States for Metals & Minerals Industry Project Spending in 2006

Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas) is currently tracking 457 Metals & Minerals Industry projects totaling more than $10.3 billion in total investment value (TIV) and scheduled to begin construction in 2006. About 70% of the TIV will be spent in ten states: Alaska, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Nevada, West Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Arizona. These Top 10 states have a total investment value (TIV) that exceeds $7 billion spread out across 157 projects. Large new mining projects, including gold and coal mines, as well as new and expanding cement manufacturing plants, gypsum wallboard plants, and steel mills, make up the majority of the projects.

Northern Dynastys Pebble gold-copper-molybdenum mine is a $1 billion project and NovaGolds Donline Creek gold mine is a $700 million project.
Pennsylvania will be the most active state in 2006 for new Metals & Minerals Industry project starts with 43 projects totaling more than $1.5 billion. The larger projects in Pennsylvania include new coal mines, metallurgical coke plants, cement plant expansions, and steel mill work.
Ohio is third on the Top 10 states list with 23 projects totaling $916 million in TIV.
