Gleenson Constructors (Sioux City, Iowa) has been selected as the general contractor to construct the 158,000 square foot manufacturing plant building. The plant will produce Blue Bunny round and square half-gallon packaged ice cream and will also have a line dedicated to the production of five-quart containers.
A cold storage and distribution center are also included with the project.
Once completed in June of 2003, the plant will initially employ 40 people, with 30 additional positions to be added when the plant is in full operation.
The facility is located in the Fort Pierce Industrial Park in Saint George, roughly 100 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The plant's location will allow Wells' to broaden product marketing and distribution to West Coast markets.
Founded in 1913, Wells' Dairy Incorporated is the largest family-owned and managed dairy processor in the United States. They currently operate two ice cream plants and a milk plant in Le Mars and a milk dairy and freezer in Omaha, Nebraska, and freezers in Kansas & Oklahoma. Distribution centers are located in Texas and Arizona. More than 500 Blue Bunny-branded products, including ice cream and frozen novelties, can be found across the United States, in Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
