Tifton Quality Peanuts Plans $15 Million Shelling Plant in Georgia

The official silver shovel ceremony, attended by the Governor of Georgia, along with company officials and local politicians, took place during the second week of November 2004. Site grading and site preparation activity for the building is currently proceeding at the 44-acre facility location in Tifton, located just forty miles North of Valdosta, Georgia.

Plans call for the construction of a 50,000 square foot shelling plant building and shelling equipment, as well as the erection of three huge storage domes capable of holding up to 12,000 tons each of peanuts. The domes are 170 feet in diameter and about 84 feet tall and will be visible from miles away once completed.

The company selected local contractor Jones Construction (Tifton, Georgia) to construct the building and Lewis Carter Manufacturing (Donaldsonville, Georgia) will install all the equipment and processing systems associated with the shelling plant. Dome Construction Group Incorporated (Boise, Idaho) will erect the dome structures.

Construction is expected to be completed by May or June of 2005, just in time for the new peanut crop.
