Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated, Houston, Texas). Toledo Molding & Die, Incorporated (Toledo, Ohio), an automotive parts supplier, is nearly finished with the site preparation for a new 92,000 square foot plant to be built in Elba, Coffee County, Alabama. Actual construction is expected to begin in the end of this month, and steel erection should begin in September.
Toledo Molding & Die has chosen Doster Construction (Birmingham, Alabama) as general contractor for the fast-tracked project. The plant, which is located on the Alabama 203 Bypass, is scheduled for completion at the end of this year or early 2004, and production will begin in the first quarter of 2004. Primary construction contracts have already been let, but there are remaining equipment installation and other minor specialty contracts that have not been bid out yet.
Toledo Molding & Die supplies parts to General Motors, Nissan, and Hyundai. The new plant is located about 90 miles from the recently opened Hyundai plant in Montgomery, Alabama. The town of Elba, with fewer than 4000 residents, just recently lost a Kleinerts Incorporated textile plant, which left some 200 workers without jobs, so the new plant is good news for Elba.
