Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Tosoh Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) is aggressively moving forward with production capacity increases and new product additions in Asia, mainly in Japan. Industrialinfo.com has been tracking Tosoh's project development and investments since 2001. This year, two projects in particular have been discussed as possible investments to be built at Tosohs Nanyo, Japan, site. A caustic soda unit addition and a chlorine unit addition are in the early planning stages, with a total investment value of approximately $100 million. Both units will utilize membrane cell process technology and have production capacities of 75,000 metric tons a year for the caustic soda unit and 150,000 metric tons a year for the chlorine unit. The earliest construction start time would be during the second quarter of 2006.
Tosoh's sites in Japan are located in Nanyo and Yokkaichi. Both sites produce products that fall under alkali and chlorine categories, as well as plastics and synthetic resins. In 2003, the company decided to add a carbon monoxide unit at Nanyo and in 2004 began planning an aniline unit at the same site. In 2004, Tosoh also began the planning phase to construct a grassroot polyvinyl chloride plant in Guangzhou, China.
Tosoh's products include chlorine, caustic soda, carbon monoxide, aniline, vinyl chloride monomers, ethylene dichloride, tert-butyl alcohol, and polyvinyl chloride.
