Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Tractebel Bahamas LNG Limited (Houston Texas), a project of Tractebel North America Incorporated, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tractebel S.A. (Brussels Belgium) is currently in the permitting phase with the Governments of the US and the Bahamas to construct a new LNG receiving terminal (PEC 52870002) and sub-sea natural gas pipeline (PEC 05002330).

The LNG terminal will have a re-gasification and send out capacity of 832MMSCFD plus an undetermined amount to supply the terminals power needs, which will be between 28-30 megawatts of gas turbine driven power generation. The terminal will be located near the city of Freeport in the Bahamas and will interconnect with the planned 24" diameter Calypso Pipeline that, will originate at the terminal and extend 90-miles west and make landfall in Broward County Florida coming onshore near Port Everglades. The terminus will be a connection the Florida Gas Transmission pipeline system nearly 6-miles inland along an existing industrial corridor.

The proposed pipeline will have enough capacity to fuel 5,000 megawatts, which, according to the Florida Public Service Commission, will satisfy approximately 40 percent of Florida's planned increase in electric generation over the next decade.

Tractebel has already let out the front end engineering & design (FEED) contract to an affiliate and hopes to select the E+P+C vendor in the first quarter of 2004 for the LNG terminal. Construction is expected to begin on the LNG facility in late 2004 and on the pipeline side construction will begin some time in 2005. Commissioning and operation of both facilities is scheduled for the first quarter of 2007.
