Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A transformer fire broke out at Hoover Dam in Nevada on Tuesday and was extinguished about 30 minutes later, according to news reports.
The fire resulted in the dam's 127-megawatt Arizona 05 hydraulic turbine unit being taken offline, according to IIR Energy.
The fire was extinguished by the Reclamation/Hoover fire brigade, the bureau's Regional Director Jacklynn Gould said in a statement, according to news reports. There were no injuries to employees or visitors, Gould said, who added there was no risk to the power grid and that power was still being generated from the power house.
The dam supplies enough hydroelectric power to serve 1.3 million people.
