Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Transit Authority of River City (TARC) (Louisville, KY) has begun the FEIS (final environmental impact statement) for the proposed T2 (Transportation Tomorrow) LRT (light rail transit) project (PEC ID# 23001545) in Louisville, Kentucky.
The T2 project process began back in 1996 when TARC began working with community leaders, business officials and local residents to identify transportation opportunities that could improve the quality of life in Louisville. To that end, TARC developed the $400 million T2 project, a 17.5 mile light rail south central corridor starter line that will provide an alternative to the congestion on Interstate 65.
The T2 line will incorporate 28 stations into the new line, which will run from the Gene Snyder Freeway to downtown Louisville. In addition to the stations, the T2 project will incorporate park-n-ride lots on the southern portion of the new line.
TARC expects to complete the FEIS this fall and will select a design-build firm in the winter. Construction is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2004 with the starter line becoming operational in 2007.
Once the starter line is operational, TARC is studying other corridor options to expand the line to other areas of Louisville.
TARC is responsible for exploring and implementing transportation opportunities that enhance the social, economic and environmental well-being of the greater Louisville community. To that end, TARC has developed community outreach programs, special community services and the T2 project. TARC has rich roots in the community and will continue to develop its transportation plans to make all areas of Louisville more accessible to its people.
