Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Ulysseas Incorporated President Jacinto Flores has revealed to Industrial Info that the company plans to inaugurate a 44-megawatt (MW) power barge turbine in February 2008. The barge will be located in Ecuador's coast. The company planned to operate the barge at Hondo Port near Guayaquil and Salinas cities, but Guayaquil's Municipality and citizens strongly rejected the resolution because of the environmental risk that it represents for the natural-reserve area.
Power Barge II will be equipped with four diesel engines from Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nurnberg AG (MAN Diesel) (Germany). The engines will produce 12.5 MW each. MAN Diesel offers a wide range of engines for stationary power generation and is known for its outstanding fuel flexibility. Its products range from captive power generation for applications in the cement, textile, mining or oil and gas industries, to power solutions for municipalities, utilities or independent power producers. MAN Diesel also has offices in Lima, Peru.
The company designs and builds turnkey power stations onshore or as power barges using modular designs. Each power plant can be extended step by step according to power demand.
Ulysseas Incorporated from the Brazilian group Synergy has another flatboat in Ecuador, the Power Barge I, which produces 30 MW and is equipped with a General Electric turbine. Serious problems have recently occurred at Power Barge I, and Flores said operations could soon be halted.
