Union Tank Car Company Begins Site Preparation for $100 Million Manufacturing Plant in Louisiana

Union Tank Car Company (Chicago, Illinois) has started site preparation for a $100 million railroad tank car manufacturing plant in Alexandria, Louisiana. The new plant will be located on a 160- acre site at the England Industrial Air Park, site of the former England Air Force Base. Construction on the access road, has started, as well as other grading and site work. Construction on the one-million-square-foot plant is expected to begin in Spring 2005, with completion in 2006. Bids are still available for subcontractors for various disciplines, and 1,000 jobs will be created when the new plant comes online. The new plant is expected to make fourteen railcars a day.
