Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Perry Nuclear Power Station, located in Perry, Ohio, tripped offline its 1,245-megawatt (MW) Unit 1 reactor due to a safety relief valve failure. Owned by First Energy Nuclear Operating Corporation (NYSE: FE) (Akron, Ohio), the power station is located on the shores of Lake Erie east of Cleveland.
Unit 01 entered into a full plant shutdown Monday afternoon. The unit is expected to remain offline until the middle of the week, station officials said. Currently, unit 01 is operating in Mode 4. The incident marks the second time the unit 01 reactor was taken offline in recent weeks.
Perry Nuclear Power Station is the single largest unit in the First Energy generating fleet and one of the largest plants in the United States.
